Bachelor of Science in Biology

Review the B.Sc. Biology Curriculum, click here to view the curriculum and to view the eight options for completing the required 30 credit units of a major program. Major courses are taken during the third and fourth year, and a major discipline must be selected and applied for during the second year.

Choosing a major option

  1. Majors Orientation is implemented annually during the first semester of the academic year.
  2. Symposia designed to allow regular students to choose from eight major fields in Biology at the IBS.
  3. All new second year B.Sc. Biology students are required attend to acquire a certificate of attendance.
  4. Highlights the courses, research topics and career opportunities to help select the appropriate discipline.
  5. ABD is tasked to deliver two major options of the BS Biology program, Zoology and Wildlife Biology.
  6. Transferees from other undergraduate programs are encouraged to select from four least chosen options.
  7. Zoology is one of four more popular majors selected, while Wildlife Biology is one of the least chosen.

Apply for your major option

  1. Letter of intent addressed to the IBS Director stating the chosen major and preferred ABD faculty adviser.
  2. Accomplished application form from IBS and other supporting documents from the College Secretary.
  3. Proof of completing the minimum required credit units and certificate of attendance from Orientation.
  4. Applications are evaluated by the Undergraduate Academic Committee, and forwards result to ABD.
  5. Successful applicants are asked to report to their assigned ABD faculty adviser, posted at Room A-218.
  6. Faculty adviser will guide the student to develop their Plan of Study (major courses and options).
  7. Submit the duly accomplished Plan of Study to the College Secretary before the deadline.

Major in Wildlife Biology

Wildlife Biology is a major field that delves deep into the biology and conservation of vertebrate wildlife. Adhering to the original definition of “wildlife” used since its inception, students will explore the world of non-domesticated tetrapods (amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) found in the wild and in their natural habitat. This program focuses on wild vertebrates that include well-recognized keystone and flagship species and addresses the unique management and conservation challenges faced by these animals in a continuously changing world. It facilitates an integrative approach with organisms related to wildlife (ex. parasites, arthropod prey, plant food, etc.) and also emphasizes the interconnection with allied fields of science (ex. forestry, medicine, biotechnology, etc.). This major program provides students with a strong background for future careers as protected area managers, environmental officers, medical doctors, educators, and researchers in the academe, government and non-government conservation organizations.

Major in Zoology
